From Refugee to Role Model: Amina’s Journey to Stability and Success

When Amina arrived in Idaho with her two young children, she carried little more than hope. As a refugee fleeing conflict, she had left behind everything familiar. The language was new, the job market felt intimidating, and she struggled to navigate the systems meant to support her.

But Amina’s journey would take a powerful turn when she connected with the Global Impact Support Agency (GISA).

“I was scared,” she recalls. “I didn’t know where to begin. But from the first meeting, GISA made me feel welcome, capable, and not alone.”

GISA’s team helped Amina develop a resume, enroll in English language classes, and attend job training workshops. Within months, she landed a position at a local healthcare clinic—her first job in the U.S. But the transformation didn’t stop there.

GISA also helped her find safe, affordable housing and provided her with financial literacy coaching. Today, she’s budgeting confidently, building credit, and even saving for a down payment on her first home.

But what truly makes Amina a success story is her choice to give back. She now volunteers as a youth mentor with GISA’s community programs.

“I want others to feel the same support I did,” she says. “GISA helped me believe in myself again—and now I want to pass that strength on.”

Amina’s story is one of resilience, community, and transformation—and a powerful reminder of the impact that support and opportunity can have.
